An effect is the consequence of an agent’s action: a payment sent, a record changed, a shipment released. Some effects can be reversed or compensated later; others can’t be cleanly undone, and a reversal is a second action with its own cost. So consequential actions are checked before they execute, and what happened is recorded after.
01Decided before
Whether the action is permitted is determined before it executes. If it isn’t, it is not dispatched.
02Held while unresolved
If an earlier attempt timed out or is still awaiting confirmation, the action isn’t retried or assumed to have worked. It waits until that outcome is known, so the same effect doesn’t happen twice.
03Receipted after
A receipt records what occurred, so anyone with standing can check it later.
